Learn More about Liturgical Ministries!
As members of the Body of Christ, we are all called to actively participate in our liturgies through presence, ritual action, prayer, silence and song. Some are called to participate also as liturgical ministries – to serve as ministers of hospitality, servers at the table of the Lord, lectors, extraordinary ministers of communion, and as music ministers.
Ministers of Hospitality
Greeters or hospitality ministers help to create a welcoming environment at Mass. They assist with welcoming all who arrive as well as programs, collections and processions at CUA liturgies. If you are a friendly, welcoming person, your presence and commitment can make a difference!
Adult Altar Servers
Altar Servers assist with the preparation of the liturgy as well as during the Mass, anticipating the needs of the presider and the liturgy. Confident and experienced servers are integral to a beautifully celebrated liturgy. Servers are needed for both Sunday, daily, and special Masses. If you have ever served at the altar before, or if you have ever wanted to learn, please consider being a part of this important ministry.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at liturgies. When we gather together to celebrate the Eucharist, we experience the presence of God in the sacrament of the Eucharist, in the presider, in one another, and in the proclamation of the Word. Lectors are needed for all Sunday and daily masses, as well as special liturgies. A good speaking voice, an ability to read in public, and a willingness to study scripture are necessary.
**You must be a fully initiated Catholic to be eligible to serve in this capacity. **Because of the popularity of this ministry, we are not able to have everyone who desires so to serve as a lector.**
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the presider in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful during both Sunday and daily Masses. **You must be a fully initiated Catholic to be eligible to serve in this capacity.
Music Ministry
Join the Music Ministry team for University Mass each Sunday. Singers, pianists, oragnists, cantors, guitarists, and solo instruments are invited to participate each week.
Music Ministry at our 11am Mass in St. Vincent's consists of rotating cantors, pianists, and instrumentalists. Music Ministry at our 4pm Mass in the Crypt Church of the Basilica consists of rotating cantors, organists, and instrumentalists. The primary Music Minister at our 9pm Mass in St. Vincent's is the Choir, all voices welcome!
Choir Rehearsals for the 9pm Sunday Eucharist are on Thursdays at 8:00pm in St. Vincent's Chapel.
If you would like to participate in the choir as a singer, musician or cantor at the 9pm Sunday Eucharist, contact Anthony Nardino at 38nardino@cua.edu and/or Jessica DePrizio at deprizio@cua.edu for more information. We always welcome new voices!
There are also opportunities to assist with our weekly Praise and Worship Adoration as a guitarist, keyboardist, and/or singer. Special note must be given to the prayerful and humble nature of this ministry.
There are always many other ways to assist in the Liturgical Ministries at CUA. You are most welcome to contact Jessica DePrizio at deprizio@cua.edu for more information!
Thank you for all that you do to build up the Body of Christ.
